In 1990, David Avery left the army to become the project manager for the development of Thamesport, a state of the art container port terminal.  For this he required driverless vehicles to move the containers, but found that there were none.  Due to this he started Firefly Ltd to develop them, with the help of academics from Oxford University. The research and development required considerable investment and he was successful in obtaining Government grants to facilitate this. 

In 1991 Janet Wright joined the company, initially as an administrator, but soon took over the financial processing of the company. During the following 15 years, the company progressed and diversified into helping other technical companies, to which David had an interest.  This involved all aspects of financial control including applying for grants and to date have succeeded in obtaining over £1M in grants for different companies. 

Both David and Jan have considerable experience with start up companies and have developed skills in liasing with government departments. 

The Company now has developed the book keeping skills and all employees are AAT qualified.
